Wayne Leibel

Wayne S. Leibel has been a hobbyist for the past fifty years,
specializing, but not exclusively, in South American cichlids.
He is also a professor of biology at Lafayette College in
Easton, PA. He has taken an active role in the American
Cichlid Association over the years, editing their journal
Buntbarsche Bulletin, serving on five BOT's, and now
as chair of the Guy D. Jordan Endowment. He became an ACA
Fellow in 1993. He also has written numerous articles for a
variety of magazines including FAMA, AFM, Cichlid News, BB, and
TFH. He currently contributes the monthly "Cichlidophiles"
column to TFH and is a cheerleader of all things cichlid.
Though by no means a discus expert or enthusiast (OK, I
like wild Heckel's) , Wayne will discuss the current
developments in discus systematics and nomenclature
reviewing the conflicting work of both Kullander and
Bleher camps. He will also do his best to entertain with his
often twisted take on matters aquatic at this year's
banquet.
